Mono-Material Films FAQ
A mono-material packaging structure is a film or laminate built entirely from a single polymer family — such as all-PE or all-PP — rather than combining dissimilar materials like PET, PE, and foil. Because all layers are chemically compatible, the finished packaging can be recycled in a single stream without separation, earning high recyclability classifications (AAA under RecyClass) and meeting the requirements of extended producer responsibility (EPR) legislation across Southern Africa and the EU.
In most applications, yes. Kampak's PE and PP mono structures use advanced EVOH-free barrier coatings and metallisation techniques that deliver excellent WVTR and OTR performance comparable to conventional duplex laminates. For ultra-high barrier requirements — such as long-shelf-life processed meats or certain pharmaceutical applications — a technical consultation is recommended to confirm suitability before full line conversion.
Kampak mono-material films are produced under ISO 14001 environmental management certification and BRCGS Grade A food safety accreditation. Our structures are independently verified by RecyClass for recyclability classification and are FDA-approved for applicable food-contact categories. Full technical data sheets and MSDS documents are available on request through our datasheet enquiry form.
For most narrow web flexo operations, the transition is minimal. Mono-material films are engineered to run on existing FFS, pouch-making, and flow-wrap equipment with sealing temperature and tension adjustments. Kampak's technical engineers provide pre-conversion line audits to identify any tooling or parameter changes required, and material samples are supplied for press trials before full order commitment.
